NSW: Casino workers strike over work conditions
Staff at Sydney's Star City Casino say management's failure to act on safety concerns
is behind tomorrow's first strike at the facility.
Croupiers, security guards and bar attendants are planning to walk off the job from
4am tomorrow until 4am Sunday, effectively shutting down casino operations.
The Liquor Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers' Union says staff are angry that
management has tried to remove conditions as part of negotiations over a pay agreement.
Union spokesman STEPHEN CLARK says staff want action on passive smoking at croupier
tables, the installation of metal detectors, and abuse by patrons.
He says management's offered a pay increase of 8.75 per cent over three years, but
staff are asking for 15 per cent over two years.
