FED: Job figures hide hardship: Rev Costello

Reverend TIM COSTELLO says today's unemployment figures fail to give a true picture
of the harsh conditions facing Australia's working poor.

The November unemployment rate of 5.6 per cent is being heralded by Reverend COSTELLO's
brother, federal Treasurer PETER COSTELLO, as proof that great opportunities exist in
the job market.

But Reverend COSTELLO says the distribution of work is uneven and large numbers of
people are still struggling.

He says the government needs to think about investing more in social capital.
