DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 2003

Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) plans to support Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 by helping customers deploy early versions of the messaging software on Dell PowerEdge(tm) servers, the company announced today.

Graphic Packaging International Corp., North America's leading folding carton packaging supplier, has deployed Exchange Server 2003 on Dell servers as part of the Microsoft Exchange Joint Development Program.

"Our employees need 24x7 access to their e-mail, and the scalability of Microsoft Exchange 2003 ensures that this vital business tool is available when we need it," said Joan Little, CIO of Graphic Packaging headquartered in Golden, Colo. "We are participating with Dell and Microsoft in the early deployment program and have found in test environments that Exchange 2003 can support a significant increase in number of users while offering the manageability that our IT staff demands."

Industry analyst firm Gartner Inc. predicts that the volume of daily e-mails sent worldwide will reach 36 billion by 2005 -- more than three times the number of e-mails sent in 2001(a). As the volume of e-mail increases rapidly, Dell has enabled companies to decrease IT costs by as much as 20 percent and support six times as many users by helping them consolidate e-mail applications on standards-based Dell servers.

Linda Hargrove, vice president of worldwide enterprise systems marketing and product management for Dell, said customers increasingly trust Dell to power their transaction-intensive applications. "Because we ship well over 50 percent of our messaging servers into Exchange environments, customers benefit directly from our experience in helping them build a standards-based, highly reliable infrastructure that can expand to support their growing e-mail requirements," she said.

In addition, Microsoft is training its Exchange Server 2003 professional services consultants on Dell servers, storage and networking systems. Dell will offer Exchange Server 2003 on its entire line of PowerEdge servers later this year to coincide with general availability from Microsoft.
